In Nigeria and other regions globally, there has been a concerning rise in traffic violations committed by commercial road users, including drivers, celebrities, and influential figures.
Upon reviewing the Federal Road Safety Corps website on
Thursday, several notable traffic offenses and their associated penalties were
identified.
As per the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Notice of
Offense Sheet, issued under Sections 10(4) and 28(2) of the FRSC
(Establishment) Act, 2007, and Regulation 220 of the National Road Traffic
Regulations (NRTR), 2012, provides a comprehensive account of the traffic
violations.
These include offenses such as overloading, hospitals
refusing to treat road accident victims, violations of learner’s driving
regulations, preaching or hawking in commercial vehicles, and light/sign
violations, among others.
Other violations include seat belt violations, speeding,
underage driving, siren violations, and using a phone while driving.

As mentioned on the website, the road agency has set a “custody
fee” of N200.00 per day for impounded motor vehicles and motorcycles/tricycles.
This fee becomes applicable after the initial 24-hour grace period.
The statement emphasized the importance of making payments
for the fines into the correct account and accompanying a teller to the FRSC
office where the booking was originally done.

Government Revenue Account in any of the commercial Banks or online using the
Remita platform accessible through http://www.remita.net
“Select “Pay FG Agency; Select FRSC under MDAs; select
“Offences” to pay for fines. Complete the other mandatory fields as applicable.
“Bring the teller/printout to the FRSC office where the
booking was made.”
