The Executive Director of the National Films and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB), Shaibu Husseini has refuted claims that the agency intends to arrest skit makers who release content without approval.
In a disclaimer issued on Saturday, Husseini labeled these
allegations as false and misleading. “Our attention has been drawn to this and
other misleading headlines circulating. We want to categorically state that at
no time and nowhere did we issue such a statement,” he clarified.
Husseini emphasized that the agency’s focus is on filmmakers
and content creators who produce, promote, exhibit, and distribute unlawful
content, including same-sex themed materials and pornography.
“Our last public statement was targeted at filmmakers and
content creators involved in producing and distributing unlawful content,
including same-sex themed content prohibited by law. We wish to assure that the
NFVCB will continue to engage with all stakeholders as we transition from
censorship to classification (rating),” Husseini stated.
Since taking office, Husseini has been actively engaging
with stakeholders across the country to establish a solid foundation for the
agency’s success.
