Ghanaian travellers to Kenya are now exempted from paying Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) fees, Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

According to a statement on Wednesday, the exemption of Ghana was reached in recognition of the visa-free regime between both countries.

Kenya announced visa-free travel for all Africans last year, replacing visa requirements with an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system.

But the arrangement received backlash over concerns that the new guidelines were "hectic" and "confusing", as even countries that had previously had unrestricted access to Kenya had to pay a $34 processing fee and go through the same waiting periods for ETA approvals.

In April, to address some of these concerns, Kenya's government granted 10 more African countries (including Ghana) exemptions from paying ETA fees.
