Starlink, the satellite arm of Elon Musk's SpaceX, issued a warning on Saturday regarding degraded service amidst the largest geomagnetic storm in two decades caused by heightened solar activity.

Starlink holds approximately 60% of the roughly 7,500 satellites orbiting Earth, establishing itself as a dominant force in the satellite internet industry.

Musk said earlier in a post on X that Starlink satellites were under a lot of pressure due to the geomagnetic storm, but were holding up so far.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has declared the ongoing storm as the most significant since October 2003. It is expected to endure throughout the weekend, presenting potential hazards to navigation systems, power grids, and satellite navigation, among various other services.

Utilizing inter-satellite laser links, the thousands of Starlink satellites in low-Earth orbit swiftly transmit data between each other at the speed of light. This innovative approach enables the network to provide internet coverage across the globe.
