Phil Foden hit a brace as Manchester City came from behind to thrash Manchester United 3-1 in a Manchester derby on Sunday to keep tabs on Liverpool.
United shockingly took the lead eight
minutes into the game at the Etihad Stadium. Marcus Rashford volleyed the ball
from the edge of the box and it went in off the inside of the left post with
Bruno Fernandes providing the assist.
Seven minutes later, Foden did well to
control a poor pass on the edge of the box then shot towards the bottom right
corner. Andre Onana was out of position but leapt to make a brilliant save.
In the 19th minute, Foden burst inside
the box, beat two defenders and produced a strike from the penalty spot. The
shot had power, but lacked precision and the goalkeeper stopped it easily.
In the 34th minute, Rodri found himself
some space just outside the box, collected a rebound and sent an effort in on
goal. Andre Onana pulled off a fantastic reflex save to stop the ball going
into the bottom right corner.
City equalised shortly after the break.
Foden perfectly collected a pass on the edge of the penalty area from Rodri,
then produced a nice strike into the top left corner to make it 1-1.
Foden got his brace to make it 2-1 for
the homers 10 minutes to the end of the game. Julian Alvarez teed up Foden
inside the box and he rolled the ball into the bottom right corner and past
Andre Onana.
One minute into added time, Rodri
produced a great pass that found Erling Haaland inside the penalty area, who
took advantage of the situation to rifle a shot into the bottom left corner to
make it 3-1.
