Team Nigeria athlete Ese Brume won Gold in the Women’s Long Jump event at the African Games in Ghana, flying to a first-round 6.92m to nail the win as she defended her title from 2019.

Brume has swept yet another Gold medal for Team Nigeria, winning her second consecutive African Games title in Accra.

Also in the women’s Long Jump, Team Nigeria’s Prestina Ochonogor won her first international medal on her first outing for Nigeria, claiming Bronze after landing 6.67m. Ruth Usoro missed out on the podium with her 6.62m jump.

Women’s Heptathlon

Team Nigeria’s Kemi Francis-Petersen won Silver in the women’s heptathlon event, scoring a total of 5268 points to win the medal at the African Games in Ghana.

Francis-Petersen finished behind Ahouanwanou Odile, who totalled 5616 points.

Women’s Discus Throw

Nigerian athlete Obiageri Amaechi produced a Personal Best (PB) of 58.93m on her final throw of the night, landing Gold in the women’s Discus Throw at the African Games.

Amaechi had never won an individual title before, but when her time came at the Games in Ghana, she made the best use of the opportunity, winning her first continental Gold medal for Nigeria.

She led a Nigerian 1-2 finish with Chioma Onyekwere, who dug deep on her 5th attempt, finding a 58.03s to claim Silver as she finished second in the event. National Champion Ashley Anumba managed 54.88m to finish 4th.
