Samsung offered a glimpse of the world's inaugural transparent MicroLED display at the ongoing CES 2024 expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, US. While details regarding the pricing and commercial availability of this cutting-edge technology remain undisclosed, Samsung presented three distinct transparent MicroLED displays, each featuring unique designs.

Among the showcased units, two incorporated tinted glass to enhance visibility by minimising potential distractions behind the panels, while the third exhibited complete transparency akin to regular glass, complemented by a frameless design.

On Samsung’s latest screen, the displayed content takes on a holographic appearance, seemingly suspended in mid-air. All demonstration units stood independently, boasting a slim profile of approximately one centimetre, contributing to the illusion of a floating screen. Furthermore, the high pixel density of micro LEDs ensured remarkably sharp images. Although Samsung has released only a single vertical video characterised by an EDM soundtrack, it offers a glimpse of the captivating visual experience.

Highlighting the advantage of transparent MicroLED displays, Samsung noted that their superior brightness compared to transparent OLED panels, making them less susceptible to ambient light interference.

However, the downside emerges when considering the current market prices of Samsung’s conventional non-transparent MicroLED TVs, which stand at a substantial $150,000 for a 110-inch model. As a result, it appears that a considerable amount of time may pass before these innovative transparent displays become accessible to a broader consumer base.
