Respawn Entertainment has announced that Star Wars Jedi:
Survivor will be released on last-gen consoles, specifically the Xbox One and
PS4. The announcement was made during EA’s earnings call, where Respawn
revealed that they are in the early stages of development for these versions.
However, Respawn is also committed to improving performance
on current-gen platforms. In a statement, the publisher mentioned that
additional performance improvements for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S
are a top priority. More information will be shared in the next update.
While it’s becoming increasingly common for AAA games to
focus solely on current-gen consoles, the high adoption rates of the PS4 make
it challenging for most games to neglect the previous generation entirely. This
news might come as a pleasant surprise for Star Wars fans who have yet to
purchase the latest consoles.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was highly anticipated by fans to
be released exclusively on current-gen consoles, even though its predecessor,
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, was cross-gen. There is now speculation that the
game may eventually be available on Nintendo consoles as well, especially if
the rumored next-gen Switch materializes.
At its launch, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received a 9/10
rating, with reviewers praising it as a sequel that improved upon the original
in every aspect. Despite some initial performance issues, it was regarded as an
exceptional Star Wars game.
Overall, Respawn’s decision to also develop versions for
Xbox One and PS4 ensures that a wider audience can enjoy the game, including
those who have not upgraded to the latest consoles.
