A non-governmental organisation, International Cooperation of Agriculture and Food (ICAF) has unfolded plans to train Ogoni youths in Rivers on modern agricultural practices in collaboration with Ogoni Liberation Initiatives to enhance economic growth in the state.

Mr Yuksel Hakan, the President of ICAF disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Sunday during the launch of an International Trade and Industrial Center by the Ogoni Liberation Initiative.

The International Cooperation of Agriculture and Food ICAF) is a Non-Governmental organisation with focus on the fields of agriculture, food and subsidiary industries.

Hakan stated that ICAF in collaboration with the Ogoni Liberation Initiative would train 80 per cent of youths in agriculture, mechanization,technology and engineering in the international trade at the industrial center.

He stated that the training will give employment and economic growth in Ogoni land, saying that the area has a rich fertile land will harnessed to create financial freedom if agricultural products are not produced.

ICAF President urged Ogoni people to embrace the goals of Ogoni Liberation Initiative on agriculture to improve on their economic circumstances.

Earlier in his speech, Dr. Douglas Fabeke, the President of Ogoni Liberation Initiative said that the group’s collaboration with ICAF was to empower youths in agriculture and other international trade programmes.

According to Fabeke, “ICAF will partner with us to enhance economic development in Ogoniland and we,the Ogoni people have the capacity to work with the international agriculture trade.”

Our Correspondent reports that the highlight of the events was when Fabeke led the the team of the foreign NGO to the proposed site for the International Trade and Industrial Center.

He appealed to state government to create an enabling environment to kick start the process of operation for immediate implementation of its plan in Ogoniland.

He appealed to the Federal Government to draw up a clear master plan of environmental restoration and management of Ogoniland, considering that all host communities are plagued with environmental degradation and pollution.
