Continuing the downward trend, Nigeria on Sunday recorded a significant drop in the daily rise in new cases of coronavirus infections and fatalities linked to it in the past 24 hours.

Nigeria on Sunday registered 537 new COVID-19 cases in 7 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Sunday's daily coronavirus infections marked a decrease from Saturday’s case count, when the nation reported 766 COVID-19 cases.

With the new cases, the total number of confirmed cases in the nation has risen to 248,312, the Health Officials said in its daily report.

Over the past 24 hours, Rivers state saw 313  more cases, while 178 new infections were recorded in Lagos and 19 cases in FCT.

Kaduna state reported 11 cases, Gombe, Ogun, Ekiti and Abia reported 6, 6, 3 and 1 cases respectively.

The health officials added zero cases were reported from Bauchi, Delta, Nasarawa, Plateau, Ondo, Osun and Sokoto.

Meanwhile, six patients died from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total fatalities count in Nigeria to 3,077

While 570 others were cured and discharged from hospitals across the nation, increasing the total recoveries to 218,997, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC said in a statement published via its official Facebook page.

Total COVID-19 recoveries in Nigeria is currently over 88.2 percent of the total cases registered in the most populous country in Africa.

As of today, there are an estimated 26,238 active cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria – down from 26,277 it was the previous day.
