Amidst the surge in coronavirus infections,
the latest situation report released by the Health officials has shown that 6 more people have
died from COVID-19 across the country.
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC on
Sunday announced 573 new cases of COVID-19 in seven states.
Today’s case count comes after officials reported
536 cases and two deaths on Saturday.
NCDC data revealed that 281 of the new cases
were recorded in Lagos, 202 in Benue and 61 in Kano.
Borno reported 20 of the cases, Jigawa had 5
cases, Edo and Oyo reported 2 cases each.
While 6 states. Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun,
Plateau, and Sokoto reported zero cases of the disease.
The health officials also said that the nation
has deemed 574 more cases of the disease to be resolved as of Sunday, Nigeria's
number of recovered patients up to 215,352.
Also, an increase of 45 cases has been
recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. Total active
cases stands at 25,111.
However, Nigeria’s health officials sadly
recorded 6 additional deaths; thus the country’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 3,039
on Sunday.
Public health officials cautioned that the
number included a backlog of 6 deaths reported in Borno state on 25th - 28th
December 2021 that stemmed from incomplete reporting during the Christmas
holiday period.
Today's report brings the total number of
lab-confirmed cases in Nigeria to 243,450, including deaths and recoveries.
NCDC added that today’s report includes a
backlog of 20 cases reported in Borno state on 28th (4), 29th (4), 30th (9),
and 31st (3) December 2021.
And 61 cases reported in Kano state on 31st December 2021 (27), and 2nd January 2022 (34).
