Nigeria recorded four more deaths linked to COVID-19 today, the death toll logged since late March 2020 reached 3,070, as virus-related hospitalizations continue to climb in the nation.

Today’s deaths count one fatality reported in Kaduna state on 6th January 2022.

Nigeria labs confirmed 814 new COVID-19 cases within 24 hours period.

There was an increase in the number of infections [814] reported on Friday compared to the number [791] reported Thursday.

With the recent addition, the country’s COVID-19 cases has climbed up to 247,009.

The latest data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC via its official website, revealed that the new cases were reported across 16 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The breakdown as released by NCDC shows that Lagos, the most affected state by COVID-19 in Nigeria reported 310 cases, almost half the new cases.

Followed by Rivers, third most affected by the virus had 126 cases on Friday, while Taraba, FCT and Ondo reported 76, 74 and 68 cases respectively.

Gombe state on Friday reported 35 cases of the disease, Kaduna had 27 cases, Oyo had 20 and Delta reported 17 cases.

Other states with new cases as follows: Kwara-12, Ekiti-11, Bauchi-9, Edo-8, Kano-8, Nasarawa-7, Ogun-4 and Bayelsa-2.

The health officials noted that Osun and Sokoto State reported zero cases in the past 24 hours.

According to NCDC updates, today’s report includes 76 confirmed cases reported in Taraba state are backlogs of 21st (6), 24th (5), 29th (36), 30th (12) December 2021, 2nd (7) & 4th (10) January 2022.

And 27 confirmed cases reported in Kaduna state is for 6th January 2022.

NCDC also said a total of 217,832 patients have recovered from the infection, as 323 patients were discharged after been clear of the disease on Friday.

There are now 26,107 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in hospital in Nigeria, up from 25,620 on Thursday.

It stated that 75 discharged cases reported in Kaduna state is for 6th January 2022.

Seventy-one discharged cases reported in FCT includes 70 community discharges.

Anr 13 discharged cases reported in Taraba state are backlogs for December 29th 2021.
