Nigeria recorded 1,139 new confirmed coronavirus cases and one more death related to COVID-19 over the past 24 hours to Thursday, against 1,355 cases reported on Wednesday, data released by the Health Officials shows.

The statistics from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) brought the confirmed number of cases in the country to 241,513 with 3,030 COVID-linked deaths since the pandemic started.

As many as 512 patients were reported to have recovered from COVID-19 infection over the last 24 hours, the health officials said today. The fresh recoveries took the tally of discharges in the country to 214,003.

An increase of 614 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. Total active cases now 24,480.

According to the update released by NCDC, River state, the third most affected by COVID-19 in Nigeria lead the chart on Thursday,  with 420 new infections.

Followed by Lagos state, the epicentre of coronavirus in Nigeria registered 324 new cases on Thursday. Which includes a backlog of confirmed cases on 17th to 29th (321) and 30th (99) December 2021

Others with new cases reported on Thursday includes Oyo-81, Gombe-47, Akwa Ibom-41, Kaduna-36, Niger-36, Ondo-35, FCT-29, Delta-18, Edo-15, Ogun-14, Kano-12, Cross River-9, Ekiti-8, Kebbi-8, Nasarawa-4, Enugu-1, Jigawa-1.

NCDC added that 3 states,  Osun, Plateau, and Sokoto reported zero cases on Thursday.

Thursday’s report includes: 41 cases reported in Akwa Ibom state on 27th (12), 28th (15), and 29th (14) December 2021.

Also 9 cases reported in Cross River state are for 29th (8) and 30th (1) December 2021.
