Marvel's Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Teases Sinister Six
For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man,
our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his
normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero.
When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become
even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be
Spider-Man.
The three-minute visual first hears Peter Parker, portrayed
by Tom Holland, touch on how his life has changed ever since becoming the
titular hero and having his identity revealed by Mysterio. Things make a turn
for the worse, however, when he accidentally disrupts a spell Dr. Strange
casts, opening up an avenue for all the franchise’s previous villains — Doc
Ock, Electro, Green Goblin, Sandman and Lizard — to enter his universe.
The trailer did finally show most of the MCU's Sinister Six
characters. We already knew Alfred Molina's Doc Oc was there, as well as Willem
Defoe's Green Goblin. But Jamie Foxx's Electro was only teased through his
lightning in previous trailers and we finally got a glimpse of him. Thomas
Haden Church's Sand Man was also featured along with Andrew Garfield's Lizard
character.
All of these villains make five with one last mystery
character that wasn't revealed in this trailer. Overall, there were better
shots of all these villains and a better explanation of the film's plot. Peter
Parker is trying to get all of these characters from alternate universes back
to where they came from.
Meanwhile, the trailer’s final scene, which sees Peter
Parker trying to save Zendaya’s MJ from a fall, harks back to the heartbreaking
ending of Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 when he was unable to save Emma
Stone’s Gwen Stacy.
The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei all reprising their roles from the previous Spidey films, with Benedict Cumberbatch joining the fray as Doctor Strange (but maybe don’t call him “Stephen,” that’s weird).
The film is directed by Jon Watts, and written by Chris McKenna & Erik
Sommers; the film is produced by Kevin and Feige Amy Pascal, and executive
producers Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, JoAnn Perritano, Rachel O’Connor,
Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17th.
