Steven Alzate's second-half winner saw Brighton come away from Anfield with three points and condemned Liverpool to another home loss which hugely dents their hopes of retaining the Premier League title.
Alzate reacted quickest to a ball pinging around the area
after Dan Burn's header across the six-yard box to scuff an effort into the top
corner in the 56th minute.
The visitors had better chances than the lacklustre Reds
throughout the match and wing-back Burn was especially threatening from his
berth on the left flank, skying the best chance of the first half over the bar.
Liverpool managed just one shot on target - a weak, deflected effort - and the result brings an abrupt end to their recent recovery, leaving them seven points adrift of league-leaders Manchester City.
