Since the first case of COVID-19 was identified in February 2020, the illness has become a pandemic, touching every corner of the planet.

The virus continues to cut its record-setting swath through the country, as Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported Records 2,314 new cases in 23 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

It’s the first time the country has reported over 2,000 cases in one day since it started tracking infections last February.

NCDC added that 12 more deaths were recorded, while 1,231 people were discharged from various isolation centers in the country.

Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in country recorded the highest number of infections with 831 new cases, raising the tally of cases in the state to 44,082 and 283 deaths recorded

Kaduna state came second on Friday with 545 new cases, raising the tally of cases in the state to 7,176 and 56 deaths 

Abuja, the Federal  Capital Territory came third with 235 new infections, this brought the tally of cases in FCT to 15,506 and 119 deaths. Making FCT the second hardest hit by the virus in the country.

The breakdown of the new cases released on Friday by NCDC as follows – Lagos-831, Kaduna-545, FCT-235, Plateau-127, Nasarawa-80, Oyo-72, Delta-65, Rivers-64, Kano-46, Ogun-46, Bayelsa-30, Gombe-30, Abia-28, Osun-27, Edo-25, Ondo-14, Sokoto-12, Zamfara-10, Bauchi-8, Imo-5, Jigawa-4, Ekiti-4, Borno-4 and Niger-2.

The health agency noted that, yesterday its erroneously reported one new case, instead of three new cases for Zamfara State.  

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has conducted about 1,225,179 tests since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

According to the health agency, till date, 118,969 cases have been confirmed, 94,877 cases have been discharged and 1,497 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
