On Thursday May 14 2020, 193 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and two deaths were recorded in Nigeria, according to a report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The new cases have raised the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 5162

NCDC while announcing the new cases on its verified Twitter handle on Thursday night, stated that no new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

The public health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory. These are Lagos, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, FCT, Ogun, Plateau, Gombe, Imo, Edo, Kwara, Borno, Bauchi, Nasarawa and Ondo.
All the reporting states already had at least a case of the virus.

A breakdown of the new confirmed cases shows that 58 cases of the virus were found in Lagos, 46 cases in Kano, 35 cases in Jigawa, 12 cases in Yobe, 9 cases in FCT and 7 cases in Ogun states.

While Pleateau and Gombe reported five cases each, Imo recorded four cases, Edo, Kwara and Borno had three cases each. Also one case each were found in Bauchi, Nasarawa and Ondo state.

Till date, 5162 cases have been confirmed, 1180 cases have been discharged and 167 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

NCDC has continued to urge Nigerians to take responsibility to prevent the spread of the disease by supporting one another.

The body said that the best way Nigerians could protect themselves and their community was with everyday preventive actions, including staying at home when they were sick and washing hands with soap and water, to help slow the spread of respiratory illness.
