Residents of Oshodi - Lagos State- and it's environs continue to live in uneasy silence over the death of influential street figure in the area, Yinka Mamowora widely known as Mammok.
The
former aide of ex speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Dimeji
Bankole was gunned down in his barber's shop on Mosaku street, Wednesday
September 30 2015.
The death
of Mammok has created tension in the area as residents and rivals and their
sympathizers continue to live in fear of reprisal action by his loyalists.
There are
volatile elements at play in the death of Mammok...cultism, politics &
transport unionism.
The
deceased was in the employment of Musiliu Akinsanya, the popular transport boss
and street figure widely known as Oluomo as chief security officer at the time
of his death.
He is
said to have retained contacts as 'political consultants and provided of
muscle' to this and that politicians from days before his involvement as aide
of the then speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole.
And from
his days as student of Ogun state polytechnic till he breathed his last, word
on the street claim he maintain position as a leader of a campus cult known for
numbers than any other thing.
According
to a source the deceased champion his groups membership drive on the streets.
'Mammok
was the one who initiated most of the boys who are in his faction in oshodi and
environs when the various groups began taking their membership drive to the
street. He was there don' an inside revealed.
The crack
that eventually claimed his life began when political interests fragmented his
hold on the members he built together societynowng.com learnt.
'However
when the issue of politics came in and he initially worked with Dimeji, many of
them were in pdp with him until Oluomo succeded in bringing him to apc. Since
then, he hardly see eye to eye with some of those boys' the source further

Additional
revelation has it that with the development came pocketfuls of conflicts as his
former followers attempted to assert themselves.
The
situation was said to have degenerated to such an extent Mammok shunned his
father's house on Mosako street for a spell based on 'security report'.
However a
day to his death - Tuesday September 29 2015 -, he reportedly visited the area
and ran into some of his former boys who refused to accord him proper respect.
Mammok
reportedly refused to let the development slide and took on those concerned.
''The
situation resulted in flashing of gun before the boys bowed and left from what
I heard ' a source claimed.
Added
information revealed that Mammok returned the following day, visited his
father's house and on his way to his barber encountered some of ex loyalists
again..
'They had
minor skirmish..the hurled abuses at one of them who hailed Mammok labelling
the person a betrayer...Mammok didn't join in their issues..he was with one of
his step brothers' another source divulged.
Further
revelations made to societynowng.com revealed that the men who came to gun him
down arrived shortly after he went inside his barber's shop.
They
reportedly came on motorcycle to carry out the tragic operation.
Immediately
he got wind of the happenstance, Mammok's employer at the time of his death -
Oluomo was said to have issued a stay off action against any form of reprisal.
He
reportedly urged supporters and sympathisers to allow police perform their
sworn duties.
Oluomo's
attempt at stopping bloodshed is reportedly being complemented with underground
moves by powerful politicians with interests in happening in the area that play
host to their 'muscles'.
Sources
claimed a national political leader has expressly forbidden any form of
violence or reprisal action in the area.
He is
said to have directed Mammok's employer to ensure his loyalists shun acts of
violence on the issue.
A former
Senator with roots in the area is said to be working on ensuring gang war
doesn't erupt over the issue as well.
All these
moves are against the background of uneasy silence over attempts at aprehending
the killers by the police - and other stake holders.
Residents
of the area are said to live in bated breath based on history of violence in
the area.

Issues of far lesser importance than the death of a prominent figure as
resulted in explosive strife...and until the real killers are identified and

boys hardly see and He was said to have stopped going to Mosaku whee his dad's
house was situated. However a day to his death, he was said to have gone with a
step brother to Mosaku and upon getting there, met some of his former boys who
refused to greet him. Mammok was said to have challenged them for not
respecting him and the issue dragged to the point where he was alleged to have
drawn his gun and threatened that he was going to shoot a particular guy that
he said should stand up and who refused. The next day, he went again to barb
from his long time barber when he met the same boys again. One of them was said
to have greeted him and the other raked for the one who greeted him and tagged
him a betrayal after Mammok went into the salon. It wasn't long after this that
those who rode on motorbikes stormed the area and upon getting there, went
straight for him, shooting him on the head at close range and then dragging him
out to put his body on his car.
