Maina Ularamu, a former chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, said the insurgents attacked Dar village in the council at about 8.30 p.m.
He added that “two female suicide bombers disguised as fleeing villagers detonated explosives in the bush where many people were hiding, killing 12.”
Spokesperson of the Adamawa Police Command, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the attack, but did not provide details.
Meanwhile, vigilant troops yesterday intercepted a suspected Boko Haram bomber and repelled a planned suicide attack on the Maimalari Cantonment Barracks, headquarters of the 7 Division Nigerian Army Maiduguri, a military source said.
A female suicide bomber with explosive devices wrapped on her body had attempted to force her way into the heavily guarded army barracks located at the outskirts of the city centre in the early hours of yesterday but was intercepted by soldiers, the source disclosed.
“The lady just entered the gate without going through any check. She even refused to answer when our troops at the gate question her mission. It was then they suspected she might be out for evil plan. Some of our men quickly moved away to prevent the bomber from running into them and fired a shot at her leg to decapitate her but surprisingly, she exploded,” a resident who drove near the barracks’ gate when the incident occurred said.
The incident, according to some residents of the barracks, occurred at about 6.35am yesterday, forcing security operatives and residents to step up surveillance in most parts of the city.
