A former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu, will this week undergo surgery on one of his knees at an unnamed hospital in the United States.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the former governor, Sunday Dare, said Mr. Tinubu hurt one of his knees while engaged in sport.
Mr. Dare did not say what sport the former governor was engaged in and which of his two knees is being operated.

However, the statement, which sought to explain the reason for Mr. Tinubu’s brief absence from public events, explained that the situation with the bad knee had worsened, and that doctors have now recommended surgery.
“Based on previous sports injury on one of his knees and recent further aggravation on the knee from rigorous political and family related activities, he has been advised by his Doctors, despite his persistent reluctance that orthopaedic surgery is necessary at this time,” the statement said.
“The week of the 5th of August has been slated for the surgery.  Governor Tinubu is expected to resume his normal political activities and public engagements following clearance from his doctors.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Tinubu has condoled with Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola, who lost his 79-year old father, Ademola Fashola, on Monday.
He said he received news of the passing of Pa Fashola “with great shock and deep sadness”.
He added, “His demise  even at the ripe age of 79 years is a hurtful one and we have indeed lost a true, honest, steadfast and dependable father.
“Pa Ademola Fashola a man of integrity is a father no one would want to loose at a time like this.My family and  I send our heartfelt condolences to governor Babatunde Raji Fashola on this great loss.

“We must find solace and take comfort in the fact that Baba lived a fulfilled life and passed away with the knowledge that he gave his very best to his family, to Lagos State and Nigeria. There is no greater testimony to this than his son, Babatunde Fashola, the Governor of  Lagos who has given a new meaning to good governance and purposeful leadership.
“Pa Fashola, Lagosians thank you. Nigeria thanks you for giving us a son like Babatunde Raji Fashola”
Governor Fashola must remain strong in the face of this great loss of  a dotting father, especially as all his other siblings look up to him for strength and courage.
“May Allah  (SWT) be his consolation and grant him peace at a time like this.”
