The Islamic sect, Boko Haram, has debunked claims by the Joint Task Force, JTF, in Maiduguri, Borno State, that on Friday, it killed 52 of its members during a raid in Jajeri area of Maiduguri.

“The truth of the matter is that we were the ones that triumphed during the encounter because we killed many soldiers and destroyed four armoured personnel carriers,” the group said in a signed statement by one Abu Zinnira, and made available to some journalists.

The group stressed that its members were not killed during the raid as security forces only succeeded in killing innocent civilians during the attack.

It further maintained that the JTF fed the media and the general public with lies as its claims were far from the truth.

The JTF had on Friday claimed that it killed 52 members of the dreaded Boko Haram group in a raid, hours after President Jonathan commended the JTF for doing a great job in fighting terrorism in the North.
