As if
he wasn’t already rich enough… Prince William can inherit a huge trust left by
his late mother today, on his 30th Birthday!
Britain’s Prince William
celebrates his 30th birthday Thursday, triggering a clause in his late mother
Diana’s will that could see him inherit more than £10 million ($15.7 million).
When Diana died in 1997,
she left a trust — worth £12.9 million at that stage — to her two sons, then
aged 15 and 12, The (London) Times reported.
Its value has since
grown and it is believed to be now worth more than £20 million. Prince Harry’s
share will be available to him on September 15, 2014.
Speculation that William
and wife Catherine — the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — may use the money to
buy a country house has been dampened by suggestions he is about to sign up for
another tour with the Royal Air Force’s Search and Rescue team.
“There has been
speculation about the duke and duchess having a house built but there are no
plans for that at all,” a royal aide told us. “If the duke decides next year to
continue his search and rescue career he might well have to move to another
base … so the idea of a new house just isn’t on the radar at the moment.”
William and Catherine,
who married last year, are expected to celebrate his milestone with friends
before returning to their rented farmhouse on Anglesey, an island off the North
West coast of Wales.
A St James’s
Palace spokesman would not give any details about how the Duke celebrated his
birthday only saying 'He’ll be spending it in a low-key, private fashion.'
His wife Kate, who
turned 30 in January, is almost certainly to be behind any events that are
planned, and also has the tricky job of finding a present for her husband.
A few close
friends were invited to the occasion which could be a quiet meal at their home
in North Wales. To celebrate, budget supermarket Aldi has recreated Prince
William's favourite cocktail at a fraction of the usual £135 price.
The store sends a
selection of ingredients to Kensington Palace which enable William to serve the
'Aldiki' for a mere £3.23 per person.
